John McMillian

Hi! I'm an associate professor of history at Georgia State University, in Atlanta. Among other works, I'm the author of "Smoking Typewriters" (Oxford, 2011), "Beatles Vs. Stones" (Simon & Schuster, 2013), which is in eight foreign language editions. I've also edited several volumes, including, most recently, "American Epidemic" (New Press, 2019).

I was born and raised in Michigan. I hold a Ph.D. from Columbia University and have lectured at Harvard. Currently, I'm writing a book about crime and policing in New York City from 1963-2001. Occasionally, I'll write for public audiences. My reviews and op-eds have appeared in the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, the Atlantic, the Times Literary Supplement, the City Journal, and elsewhere.

Thank you for your interest! I would be pleased to consider speaking at your event.
