Graham's work concerns the relationship between human values and a scientific understanding of the human condition. He examines this relationship within three realms: environmental philosophy, moral psychology, and cognitive science of religion. In his research environmental, moral, and religious values are examined using insights from philosophy of mind, cognitive science, and evolutionary psychology.
The following set of hierarchical principles guides his academic work: (1) intellectual autonomy, (2) critical thinking, (3) moral insight, (4) sustainability literacy, and (5) community collaboration.
Graham facilitates the monthly Philosophy in the Pub in Launceston, an opportunity for a wide range of members of the local community to engage in intellectually rigorous discussions on topics of their collective choice.
